A(n)namorphosis
Katarzyna Mazur
A(n)namorphosis by Berlin based Polish photographer Katarzyna Mazur has its origin in the predominantly male fan community that has formed around the female fighters, but in time expanded to a broader reflection on hierarchies of gaze. The project was created as a reaction to the decontextualization and consequent misinterpretation of photographer’s previous work Anna Konda (dienacht, 2015).
A(n)namorphosis aims at visual deconstruction of masculinity and femininity, which are ultimately a social construction. It is a possible responce to the many moments, looks, comments that are not a compliment, but they make my self-assertion as a woman a constant struggle. The project is reflection on how it feels to be the object of the gaze, which I return: I see you seeing me.
