At the heart of the book is that infamous first shoot that resulted in one roll of 36 images Tomanova is now showing as First Roll, Kate and Odie (2025) — the complete, never-before-seen roll of film, presented in its original sequence. This series serves as a powerful testament to Tomanova’s transparent and intimate approach to photography, where each moment connects with the next in a cinematic, yet also still, narrative.
Kate, For You not only showcases the iconic images from First Roll, but shows long term visual collaboration between the photographer and Kate. The book reveals Tomanova’s unique ability to craft a sustained and evolving narrative over time with each photograph offering a window into both Kate’s life and Tomanova’s growth as an artist.
